  Want to make a difference at HBS? Join the WSA Conference Panel Team! 

As the largest student-led conference at HBS, the WSA Conference brings together over 1,000 students, alumni, faculty, and business leaders to discuss, share and learn about issues specific to female business leaders

 

Why Panels?  Because you can call up business leaders you have always wanted to connect with—in the industry or on the topic of your choice!

 

Responsibilities:  Take charge of organizing one of 15 panels, each with unique theme/industry  (2 managers per panel)

 

Time Commitment: 1-2 hrs/week Sept-Jan

Title: HBS Tour Guides for the Harvard University Women in Business Conference

When: Friday, October 22nd 4:00-5:00pm

Where: HBS Campus

What: The HBS Admission offices is looking for 5-10 women to lead an hour long tour of the HBS campus for 100 women attending the Harvard University Women in Business Conference.  The tour path, main talking points, and basic structure will be provided by the admission office.  If you would be interested in helping, please email Kira Epler at kepler@mba2011.hbs.edu

As they approach their one-year anniversary, co-founders Jennifer Fleiss and Jennifer Hyman (both HBS 2009) speak about their journey - from founding Rent the Runway during their EC year at HBS to securing $15M in VC funding from Bain Capital to signing up their 500,000th customer!

Title:  Women’s Golf Lessons – Saturday Spots Available!

When: Four, one hour lessons over the next four weeks

Where: Newton Commonwealth Golf Course (12 minute drive from campus)

What: We still have a few spots open in the Saturday 2 PM group scheduled for 10/9, 10/16, 10/23 and 10/30.  You need to commit to 3 out of the 4 lessons (or either reimburse your group or find a substitute for yourself).

  • 3:00 – 4:00 à Panel with 4 recent Female Entrepreneurs (Spangler Aud)
  • 4:00 – 5:00 à Speaker: Tom Stemberg, founder of Staples, discusses Entrepreneurship, VC and his support of female CEOs (Spangler Aud)
  • 5:00 – 6:00 à Networking Hour in Kresge where local female CEOs/Entrepreneurs will be available to talk and share their experiences in an informal setting
  • Attendees are welcome to attend ANY of these 3 hour sessions

What: "Myth busting in Massachusetts" The data show are in and they show that women in Massachusetts are breaking barriers and busting myths by starting and leading venture backed companies at 6x the rate of any other state. Also, meet women from the SHEos, a newly formed group of entrepreneurial CEOs which is already over 50 strong. [Alumni] "How We Got to the Top of the World" ~A story of a startup that became a $4 billion mobile business~ Tomoko Namba, Founder/CEO of DeNA

What:  DeNA is a fast-growing Japanese company that owns and operates the world’s largest virtual identity social network site (SNS), Mobage-town. DeNA has posted excellent results, drawing from a user community that is more engaged than those of western giants, Zynga and Facebook. Net revenues of the company in 2010 will reach over $1 billion from just 21 million users, mostly generated from the sale of virtual goods on social games.  In this seminar, Tomoko Namba, founder of DeNA will discuss how DeNA was able to achieve this spectacular growth and how it plans to apply the business model to global markets.

When: Tuesday, October 5th 2010, 4:00 – 5:00 PM

What: Kristy Cunningham, a Partner at Bain & Company and HBS alum, will be presenting a recruiting workshop for women on how to put your “Best Foot Forward” as you consider career opportunities post business school.  The presentation is based on extensive Bain-led research, and is designed to teach strategies for successful self presentation and promotion. (Attire is casual.)

 

[CPD] WEST’s Assertiveness as Active Engagement: Strategies for Technical Women

When: Thursday, October 21 from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Where: Riverfront Office Park (near Kendall Square T stop), One Main Street, Cambridge, MA

What: Women are often advised to be more assertive. Research shows that men ask for more and they get more – in salaries, promotions, and visibility. But there can be a cost to women if they are perceived as too assertive or aggressive.  Women Entrepreneurs in Science & Technology (WEST) will share strategies and techniques for a set of behaviors called Assertiveness as Active Engagement.  You will leave this workshop with an action plan to begin Assertiveness as Active Engagement your next day at work.
